We at Visionist are proud of the way our staff has supported our community during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the past two weeks, Visionist staff volunteered their time to create a website to help get meals to families-in-need in Howard County, MD.
Visionist engineer, Joe Shaw, found out that families were not taking advantage of the free meals being provided by Howard County schools because of the long distance many of them had to travel without reliable transportation. School volunteers started a signup sheet with Google Forms to manually pair families-in-need with volunteers who would then deliver the food. When the spreadsheets became unmanageable Joe came up with an idea for a website that would streamline the sign-up and matching process.
In less than a week, a group of Visionists created https://grabandgohoco.com. The site presents delivery volunteers a map of locations where families need meals. The volunteers can then select the homes they can serve. Behind the scenes, a powerful admin interface gives the coordinators the ability to easily generate reports required by the county.
In the first week, the site paired 18 new families with volunteers (on top of the 30 previously paired) and signed up 32 additional volunteers that are ready to deliver. For more information, head over to https://grabandgohoco.com.
