Helping the Community
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Visionist staff volunteered their time to create the Grab and Go HoCo website which helps get meals to families in need in Howard County, MD. The site allows families without reliable transportation to request a meal delivery and helps volunteers successfully match with families in order to deliver those meals.
Volunteering to Help
Many families were not taking advantage of the free meals being provided by Howard County schools during the COVID-19 shutdown because of the long distance many of them had to travel without reliable transportation. Grab and Go HoCo allows people in the community to sign up as volunteers to help deliver meals which aren't so easily attainable.
Delivering to Families
Once volunteers are signed up and approved, they are presented a dashboard containing a map of all families in need. They can then select families to deliver meals to and a school to pick up the meals from.
Families may also request to have meals delivered. In the first week, the site paired 18 new families with volunteers (on top of the 30 previously paired) and signed up 32 additional volunteers that were ready to deliver.
